Guwahati: Security forces deployed in Manipur have seized a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from the crisis-hit state’s Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts.

The Indian Army along with the Manipur police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) launched a series of 48-hour-long search operations in the state’s Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts, a defence spokesperson said.

On Thursday (September 11, 2024), the Army along with the Manipur police and CRPF carried out a search operation in Churachandpur district’s Maulsang area, he added.

During the operation, the joint team recovered a 7.62mm AK series assault rifle with magazine, three country-made improvised mortars, locally known as pompi, and other combat materials, he said.

On Friday, the Army in close coordination with the Manipur police and BSF conducted a search operation in a thickly forested area of Kangpokpi district, he added.

The search operation led to the recovery of a modified M-16 rifle, a 7.5 feet country-made rocket, a large country-made mortar, several live rounds of ammunition and other combat materials, he said.

All the recovered items were later handed over to the state police for further investigation, he added.

The operation marks a significant step in neutralising the threat posed by the warring groups, reaffirming the commitment of the security forces towards restoring peace in the strife-torn state, he further said.
