Manipur: Nine students injured in school building fire in Imphal
Imphal: At least nine students were rushed to a government hospital after a fire engulfed the classroom of the Prisom Higher Secondary School, Naoremthong in Imphal West district on Monday.
The fire erupted from the classroom of XI standard inside the second floor of the school building at around 10:30 am on Monday.
The students mostly girls got injuries due to the panic and inhaling smoke billowing from the fire.
Immediately, the injured students were rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal where the conditions of all the students were normal after giving medical treatments.
On getting the information two fire tenders from the Manipur Fire Service Department, Imphal rushed to the spot and put out the fire thereby preventing from causing of further damage.
The school has around 200 students — in class XI and Class XII, a teacher said, adding that the cause of the fire may be the short circuit.
The District Commissioner of the Imphal West Th Kirankumar and Officer-in-Charge of the Lamphel police station have also assessed the prevailing situation.
