Manipur: Mob storms police station, loot weapons in Ukhrul

Guwahati: A mob stormed a police station in Ukhrul district of Manipur and made away with weapons while two groups were engaged in a clash on Wednesday.

The mob attacked the police station located at the Wino Bazaar area in Ukhrul town when both the groups were clashing.

However, the types and number of weapons looted could not be ascertained and an investigation is underway.

The incident on Wednesday left three dead, including a Manipur Rifles personnel, besides several others sustaining gunshot injuries.

The incident took place during the annual cleanliness drive conducted by the Thawaijao Hungpung Young Students Organisation (THYSO) when an altercation between the residents of Hungpung and Hunphun villages escalated into gunfire, resulting in the fatalities and injuries.

The administration soon imposed prohibitory orders and suspended mobile data services in the Ukhrul town.
