Manipur: MMA title holder Chungreng Koren felicitated in Imphal
Imphal: Chungreng Koren, a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter who hails from a tribal family and starts his fighting training in the paddy field in Manipur, won the Matrix Fight Night (MFN) Interim Bantamweight World Title.
A felicitation function was held in honour of Chungreng at Imphal on Thursday.
In his X post Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh shares, “Pleased to felicitate Manipuri MMA Fighter Chungreng Koren.”
The CM added, “We are truly proud of our Mix Martial Arts champions who have been bringing laurels for the country and the state, and making Manipur shine on various national and international platforms.”
Chungreng lost his father before his birth. Raised by his widowed mother he engaged in physical labour to support his family at the rice field pursuing his passion for wrestling, which he first discovered on television.
Chungreng said that his first fight was at Manipur Fight League 2018 with which winning via TKO/KO in the fight was an unforgettable memory.
After winning the world title his name was instantly in the national media and social platform.
After winning the title, he was seen crying inside the ring and appealed to Prime Minister Narendra to pay a visit and make peace in the strife Manipur as soon as possible.
