Manipur: JAC demands arrest of culprits who killed a farmer within 48 hours
Imphal: A newly formed Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the brutal killing of Soibam Saratkumar, (59), on Friday served an ultimatum to the state government to arrest the killer within 48 hours.
Kh Sasikanta Singh, convenor of the JAC, in the ultimatum, served to the Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, states that one Gousanga, a Kuki Tribal, has slid the throat of S Saratkumar to death.
Saratkumar, a farmer by profession was abducted from Khasia Punji in Jiribam district while he was returning from his farm at Leishabithol of the same district.
He was found dead at a hill near Mulargoan by Jiri police and other security forces during a search operation.
“The killer, weapon used in the crime, and a four-wheeler vehicle used in the crime must be captured within June 9,” the ultimatur states. If the law protectors of the country were unable to arrest the killer within the stipulated time, the body of the slain which is now lying at the Jiribam District hospital would not claimed by the JAC.
Moreover, intense agitation would be on the horizon.
The JAC also demanded paying ex-gratia/compensation payment of Rs 10 lakh to the next kin of the deceased person, to provide a suitable government job to the family of the deceased
Moreover, they also said that the Meiteis residing at the unsafe locations of Jiribam district be given adequate security and placed at safer locations, allowing free movements of the Meities on the National Highway 37 connection from Imphal to Silchar via Jiribam district headquarters.
The JAC was formed arising out of the killing of Saratkumar with a meeting held at the Jiribam Khunou Community Hall on Friday with a convenor and 11 members.
On Thursday night, hundreds of people stormed the Jiribam Police Station demanding befitting punishment for the killer of S Saratkumar.
