Imphal: The joint column of Assam Rifles and Churachandpur district police launched an operation and recovered a huge cache of arms, explosives, and war-like stores from an abandoned camp at Sangaikot village in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, a defence wing statement said here on Saturday.

Eight weapons and other war-like stores were recovered during the operation based on specific input for its sources on Friday.

The recovery includes one Self Loading Rifle (SLR) with the magazine which is likely to have been looted from the police station, four-barrel rifles, one point-22 pistol, two improvised heavy mortars, and ammunition.

The recovered items have been handed over to Sangaikot Police Station, Churachandpur District.

Churachandpur district predominantly inhabited by the Kuki-Zo communities has become a hotbed of crime relating to the ethnic violence in this strife state.

The ethnic conflict started in Manipur on May 3, 2023, and cost the lives of over 230 individuals belonging to the Kuki-Zo and Meities.
