Manipur: Hidden cache of weapons recovered in Churachandpur
Imphal: A team involving the central and state forces discovered a hidden cache of arms, ammunition, and weapons in Churachandpur District on Wednesday, officials said on Thursday.
Personnel of the 36 Assam Rifles (AR) and Sangaikot Police Station conducted a comprehensive search operation in the general area of Khengmol village, located within the jurisdiction of Sangaikot Police Station.
The second operation from 7:00 am to 1:30 pm on Wednesday, led to the recovery of 11 weapons, various ammunition, and war-like stores were recovered.
This includes one Tear Gas Gun, two modified Sniper Rifles with telescopic sights, one .303 Rifle, one 9 mm Pistol, four 12 Bore Single Barrel Rifles, two improvised heavy Mortars, ammunition tear smoke grenades, anti-riot rubber bullets, stun grenades and other war like stores.
The operation was conducted on Tuesday at an abandoned camp of the anti-socials in the same district and resulted in the recovery of a 12.5 Assault Rifle, a Single Shot Bolt action Rifle, two 9mm pistols, a Mortar, and ammunition along with other War-Like stores.
Moreover, a substantial cache of weapons and riot control equipment were recovered, some of which are believed to have been looted from law enforcement agencies.
The recovered items have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and disposal.
