Manipur govt. declares public holiday on Friday due to flood

Imphal: The Manipur government has declared Friday (May 31) as a public holiday for all government offices including public sector undertakings/ corporations as well as autonomous bodies/societies under the Government of Manipur.

 Angon Heera Singh, Deputy Secretary (GAD) of the government of Manipur, in an order issued on Thursday, states that in the exercise of the powers conferred by the explanation under Section 25 Act, 1881 (XXVI of 1881), for all banks, financial institutions and LIC, etc located in the state shall also remain closed on these mentioned dates.

The state has been experiencing incessant rains due to the effects of cyclones and landslides.

This has resulted in the inundation of various places and the government is carrying out rescue and relief works through district administration and concerned departments.

For schools and colleges, separate orders dated May 28 have already been issued by the concerned departments.

Under this order, all educational institutes remain closed till Friday.

However, departments involved in rescue and relief operations and essential services namely, Home, Police, District Administration, Relief and Disaster Management, Power, Health and Family Welfare, Public Health Eanering, Water Resources, PWD, GAD, CAF and PPD, MI Forest, LDA etc shall remain open.

Moreover, officers/employees of all the other departments will also be available on phone calls for any eventuality, the order added.
