Manipur Governor celebrates International Day of Yoga at Raj Bhavan
Imphal: Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey led several people to practice yoga asanas on the International Day of Yoga, celebrated on Friday at the lawn of the Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
The day is celebrated across the globe annually on June 21 following its adoption by the United Nations in 2014.
As yoga exercises have shown significant benefits for physical and mental well-being, the UN considered it important to promote this wellness practice which originated in ancient India globally.
This year’s theme ‘Yoga for Self and Society’ emphasizes yoga’s vital role in fostering individual well-being and social harmony.
Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey practiced yoga asanas with officers, staff, and security personnel at Raj Bhavan on Friday morning.
After the yoga session, insisting the people of Manipur practice yoga daily to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle, the Governor said, as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi the importance of yoga in our daily life the day is being celebrated throughout the country and the world today.
She said the benefit of yoga to our health is worth mentioning and therefore all people should understand the idea of yoga and its practices for our health and wellbeing.
Yoga promotes not only our physical health but also helps to sustain good mental health.
The governor appealed to the people in the state to practice yoga as an essential exercise daily.
The governor wished all the officers, staff, security personnel, and officials from the Ayush Department who took part in the yoga session.
