Imphal: Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition in Manipur Assembly Okram Ibobi Singh on Monday (September 2, 2024) slammed the BJP-led Central and state governments over Sunday’s attack in Imphal West’s Koutruk by alleged Kuki militants.

Talking to media persons, Ibobi Singh lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh for allegedly being mute spectators to the ghastly attack by alleged Kuki militants.

“Despite the death of a Meitei woman and injuries to 11 others, including security personnel, in the attack on Sunday, and second consecutive attack in the villages of Imphal East on Monday, the Central and state governments have remained silent,” Ibobi Singh said.

The veteran Congressman urged PM Modi and CM Biren Singh to take strict action against the perpetrators of the attack. He said the government must take stringent measures for the safety and security of the villagers.

Earlier in the day, Ibobi Singh led a delegation of the INDIA bloc to Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.

The Opposition in the memorandum urged Governor Acharya to apprise PM Modi about the situation back in the state and to initiate strict action against those involved in the recent attacks.

Ibobi Singh also urged the Prime Minister to pay a surprise visit to the crisis-hit state to assess the prevailing situation due to the unceasing violence.
