GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Manipur, establishing July 1 as the qualifying date for voter eligibility. This initiative is designed to guarantee that all eligible citizens are represented in the voter list while also removing any ineligible or duplicate entries.

Arun Kumar Sinha, the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur, has declared that the preparations for this extensive revision process have been finalized. These preparations encompass the training of election staff, the printing of enumeration forms and the establishment of support systems throughout the state. He underscored that no voter's name would be deleted from the electoral roll without adhering to due process and allowing for verification and representation.

During the preparatory phase, election authorities engaged in discussions with established political parties, outlining the revision process and urging them to designate Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to collaborate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Additionally, similar awareness sessions were conducted at both district and constituency levels to promote broader participation.

Comprehensive training has been provided for election officials, which includes District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, supervisors and field staff. Specialized help desks have been set up in all 16 districts to aid citizens in finding previous electoral records and completing required forms.

Over 20 lakh enumeration forms have been printed for current voters throughout the state. In the subsequent phase, approximately 3,000 Booth Level Officers will carry out door-to-door visits to distribute pre-filled forms to the electors. Residents must verify their information, fill out the forms, and return them while keeping a copy for their records.

To enhance accessibility, voters also have the option to complete and upload forms online via the Election Commission’s voter portal and the ECINet mobile application. Additional assistance will be provided through the Voter Helpline 1950 and various other digital services.
