New Delhi/Imphal: Delhi Police foiled a prayer ceremony and picked up 11 activists of the Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee, Youth Wing at the India Gate, a symbol of bravery, resilience, and sacrifice on Sunday night, officials said on Monday.

The police of the national capital restricted the peace prayer ceremony of the DMCC-Youth Wing when a large number of people mostly the Meiteis (people), supporters, and members of the same voluntary organization started gathering and offering prayers at the India Gate at around 8 pm on Sunday.

The peace prayers were ceremonised in memory of those people especially the security forces who lost their lives in the ongoing ethnic violence that entered nine months on February 3, 2024.

The large gathering of people observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect for the departed souls of those who lost their lives in the conflict. 

The movements after the prayers were over, the police picked up 11 members of the Committee were picked up and herded into a police van at around 8:30 pm on Sunday, the sources said.

A member of the Committee said that the prayers were offered for the restoration of eluding peace in the strife state of Manipur.

Over 200 individuals lost their lives in the feud between the Meiteis and Kukis on Monday, the sources added.
