Guwahati: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday (September 8, 2024) urged the Central government to take steps to protect the territorial integrity of the crisis-hit state.
The Chief Minister also urged the Centre to not give in to the demand for a separate administration raised by various Kuki-Zo groups.
CM Singh in a memorandum submitted to Manipur Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya made the appeals.
Singh, accompanied by a host of legislators and the Assembly Speaker met Governor Acharya at Raj Bhavan where a meeting was also convened.
CM Singh in the memorandum stated that the Central government needs to ensure peace return to the violence-hit state and give adequate power to the Manipur government.
He also urged to revoke the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement signed in 2008.
The SoO was signed by the Central government, the state government, and two groups of Kuki extremist outfits, the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United People’s Front (UPF).
The Raj Bhavan in a statement issued later said that CM Singh along with his cabinet colleagues met the Governor and submitted a memorandum.
The Raj Bhavan statement said that other than over 20 legislators, the Chief Minister was accompanied by the Assembly Speaker during the hour-long meeting.
The meeting took place following a fresh bout of violence this month.
