Manipur: Arms dealer arrested with Rs 13 lakh and a cache of warlike weapons in Ukhrul
Imphal: In a significant operation jointly launched by the Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General of Assam Rifles — South (IGAR-S) and Manipur Police a suspected arms dealer was arrested along with Rs. 13.11 lakh in cash, and a cache of arms, ammunition and war like stores in Ukhrul town of Manipur on Wednesday, officials said.
The Ukhrul is predominantly inhabited by the Tangkhul Nagas in the state.
Based on credible intelligence about an arms dealer operating in Ukhrul Town, a team of the Ukhrul district police and Assam Rifles conducted a swift search operation at Viewland on the intervening night of Tuesday.
Official reports stated that the operation resulted in the arrest of one alleged arms dealer later identified as Nganingmi Vashum (42) of New Tusom village, PO and PS Jessami, Ukhrul District, Manipur.
The recovery items included Rs. 13,11,130 in cash, one 9mm Carbine with magazine, thirty-seven 9mm ball ammunition, one Pistol with magazine, one Chinese Hand grenade, forty 5.56 mm INSAS rounds, fifteen 0.22 Ball ammunition, one AK-47 rounds, three 7.62 SLR fired cartridges, three Assault Rifles Sling, one 12 Gauge Shotgun, 110 shotgun rounds, three Shotgun fired cartridges, two mobile phones, and a wallet.
The apprehended individual was booked under FIR No. 8(4)2024/UKL-PS U/S 400 IPC, 25(1-C) 27 Arms Act and 5 Explosive Substances Act 1908 has been handed over to Ukhrul Police for investigation and further legal action, the officials added.
