Manipur: Arms and ammunition recovered from Bishnupur and Kakching
Imphal: Acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of arms and ammunition in the general area of Nambol Maibam in the Bishnupur district of Manipur, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police including commandos and CRPF launched a joint search operation on Saturday.
The joint team recovered one Sten Gun Carbine, One 9 mm pistol, one modified 303 rifle, nine grenades, ammunition, and war-like stores, the police said.
The operation was the follow-up actions that were carried out on Friday at an area of Terapishak Natekhong village, the adjacent district of Kakching. The joint team ‘recovered’ two carbine semi-machine guns along with two empty magazines and four hand grenades.
The recovered items were handed over to the concerned police stations.
These operations were conducted after the Assam Rifles organized a Security Coordination Meet at Sangaikot and Aina Village, Churachandpur district of Manipur on Friday, (April 5) which witnessed a healthy participation of village authorities including the Village Chiefs and Village Secretary.
The said meeting provided a platform to all concerned for brainstorming various security issues prevailing in the area, and career and growth prospects for the local youth thereby refraining them from engaging in anti-national activities.
During the meeting, locals were sensitized and updated on the current security situation existing in the area and were encouraged to align their efforts towards a common goal of peace and prosperity in the region. A total of 36 Village Chiefs from Makhao, Leisan Tampak, Patzang, Pantha, G Songgel, and other adjoining villages of Sangaikot subdivision and Aina attended the said meeting.
Attendees expressed their solidarity in fighting the odds to keep the area peaceful and safe.
