Manipur: 30-year-old woman held with gemstones, drugs and Rs 3.5 lakh cash in Moreh
Imphal: A 30-year-old female smuggler was arrested along with a large number of contraband items smuggled into the Indian state of Manipur from neighbouring Myanmar through Moreh in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district.
Apart from the illegal items recovered from her possession, the security forces deployed along the borders also recovered Rs 3.5 lakh in cash, a morning police report said here on Sunday.
On getting intelligence sources from across the border, the Indian security forces waylaid the alleged smuggler near a location at Moreh, Manipur’s last border town with Myanmar on the south.
In the follow-up action, the security forces arrested the individual from Dalpati Road near Shiva Mandir under Moreh Police Station on Saturday.
She was later identified as Chinngaivung (30).
Further from her possession, the following items were recovered: 60 packets containing suspected Brown Sugar weighing 27 grams (including the weight of packing material), 2,000 Packing pipe packets, 15 pieces gemstones, 47 packets containing suspected WY tablets weighing, 971 grams (including weight of packing material), Rs. 3.5 lakh cash.
The arrested person and seized items have been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal formality, the report added.
