Imphal: The Manipur Police’s bomb detection and disposal squad diffused two explosives recovered from different locations of Ukhrul district of the strife-torn state over the past 24 hours.

According to an official report, Ukhrul police received information about an explosive device planted in a strategic area of the district headquarters.

The first incident involved the recovery of a grenade at the entrance of the Zonal Education Office in Ukhrul at around 9.30 am on Wednesday.

In response, the state police and Assam Rifles swiftly cordoned off the area in order to ensure public safety.

Bomb experts from the Manipur Police headquarters in Imphal were rushed to the spot.

The experts successfully defused the bomb at around 4.20 pm.

In the second incident, a grenade was found during a roadside cleanliness drive conducted by the locals of Ngangkhalawai village under the jurisdiction of Moirang police station on Tuesday.

On being informed, bomb experts arrived on the spot and retrieved the grenade which was found without a detonator.

The police have registered cases in connection with the recovery of the explosives and investigations are underway.
