Law and order in disarray, constitutional rights eroded: Tripura CPIM MLA

Agartala: Jitendra Chaudhury, the Tripura CPIM state committee secretary, asserted on Monday that the state’s law and order have entirely disintegrated and that constitutional rights have been severely compromised under BJP governance.

Chaudhury’s remarks came following a rally for the submission of nominations in Santchand Rural Development Block, South District. During this event, participants allegedly faced stone-throwing by miscreants.

He claimed that as CPIM workers were exiting the block offices after submitting their nominations, a group of supposed BJP-affiliated miscreants began pelting them with stones in the presence of police officers.

“Fortunately, no one was injured. Their aim was to provoke us, but we remained focused on our primary goal — submitting the nominations. We are uncertain if our workers and candidates will safely reach their homes. This is indicative of the broader struggle to restore democracy. The law and order situation has completely collapsed, and constitutional rights are utterly paralyzed. We are living under the rule of the jungle,” stated Chaudhury, who also serves as the Leader of the Opposition.

He added that BJP workers are actively obstructing other political party members and candidates from filing nominations, all under the watchful eyes of passive police officers.

“The police are merely spectators, failing to take any action. The ruling party is systematically dismantling democracy. If we do not unite against this BJP misrule, we risk failing to restore law and order and saving our democracy,” he told reporters.
