Heroin worth Rs. 5 crore seized from two smugglers in Manipur
Imphal: Two suspected drug traffickers including a female were arrested along with 2.5 kg of heroin worth around Rs. 5 crore in the regional black markets during an operation, the police said on Tuesday.
The Anti Drug squad of the Manipur police in its drive including women police conducted a raid and arrested two alleged smugglers later identified as N. Alexander (47 yrs) and Peering Anal, 45, (female).
Both the smugglers are the residents of the Chandel district of Manipur bordering Myanmar on the south.
The arrests and seizures were made based on specific input received from across the border regarding clandestine operations of contraband items on NH-102 connecting Imphal — More border town.
The police established a temporary vehicle check post at a location in Manipur’s Thoubal district and during the search operation, the drugs stated to be smuggling into Manipur from Myanmar were found in several soap cases made in Myanmar.
The police report stated that these drug smugglers were arrested on April 21.
Two Mobile Phones, one vehicle, and other identity documents were also recovered from their possession.
The arrested persons were booked under the NDPS Act 1985 and are now in Thoubal police station for further action, the police added.
