Gaurav Gogoi leads ‘Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod’ campaign in Maibong, Dima Hasao
Guwahati: Jorhat MP and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President, Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday led the "Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod" signature campaign in Maibong, Dima Hasao district, describing the overwhelming public response as a major morale boost for the Congress party.
"I participated in the 'Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod' signature campaign in Maibong. The public participation in this campaign is noteworthy and highly encouraging for the Congress party. Their involvement has given us the courage and inspiration to move two steps forward in the interest of the people. Additionally, apart from attending the booth conference in Maibong, I visited the historic 'Stone House' on the banks of the Mahur River, also known as 'Ranachandi Temple,' and received blessings." Gogoi posted on social media.
The event organized alongside a booth-level workers’ conference, witnessed strong participation from local residents who signed the petition demanding the ouster of those accused of vote theft. Gogoi described the turnout as a source of renewed strength for the party's public-interest agenda.
Following the campaign, Gogoi paid homage at the iconic "Stone House," a 16th-century monolithic rock-cut temple dedicated to Goddess Ranachandi, the warrior form of Gauri and the presiding deity of the Dimasa-Kachari kings. Located on the Mahur River, the structure reflects Bengal-style curvilinear architecture and features a 17th-century inscription.
The Maibong program is part of Congress’s nationwide drive launched in August 2025, following Rahul Gandhi’s revelations of voter list irregularities. The campaign has collected over 15 lakh signatures in Rajasthan and 16 lakhs in Jharkhand, with growing traction in Northeast states like Meghalaya (10,000 participants) and Arunachal Pradesh (over 50,000).
In Assam, the APCC has stepped up booth-level mobilization, training agents to counter alleged voter suppression by the ruling BJP. Local leaders described the Maibong event as a strategic success, blending anti-corruption messaging with cultural outreach to consolidate support in tribal-dominated Dima Hasao. The party plans to escalate the campaign ahead of upcoming elections.
