Congress President rebukes Himanta Biswa Sarma, says “I have spoken to Modi, not the CM”
Guwahati: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has reacted sharply to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s response to the Congress president's statement that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi should read our manifesto first and then we can have a discussion on it”.
Assam Chief Minister had earlier said that “PM Modi can read and write English very well. You (Congress) have written your manifest in both Hindi and English. Why there should be any supplementary communication? Why there should be any meeting between Kharge and the BJP at this time?”
When a reporter asked about Sarma’s offer to join the BJP, Kharge said “I have spoken to Modi, not the CM. I am the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. I was also in Lok Sabha. So, I have little competence in Parliamentary affairs. So, who is my opponent in Parliament? Modi. So, I will speak to Modi. Why is he (Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma) bothered? Let him face our people here and then speak about me.”
