Congress announces candidates for Lok Sabha polls in Manipur

Imphal: The INDIA Bloc alliance of ten political parties in Manipur on Friday announced its candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats — Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency (reserved for scheduled tribes) and Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.

Manipur has two Lok Sabha seats and will go to the polls in two phases on April 19 and April 26.

Two leaders of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Alfred Kan-Ngam Arthur, a former MLA of the Ukhrul assembly constituency, and Dr. A Bimol Akoijam, a former associate professor at the School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), were selected as the candidates for the INDIA Bloc.

This was announced by the MPCC president Keisham Meghachandra in a press conference at the Congress Bhavan, Imphal on Friday.

Alfred Kan-Ngam Arthur who is also Vice president of the MPCC will be the candidate in the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat (ST) and Dr. A Bimol Akoijam, for the Inner Manipur PC.

Representatives of INC (MPCC), AAP, AIFB, AITC, CPI, CPI(M), JD(U), NCP, RSP, and SS (UBT) were also present while announcing the names of the candidates at the press conference.
