Guwahati: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) Farmers’ Wing convener K Thoiba Meetei has requested the Manipur government to disperse the compensation for the affected farmers, whose crops were left damaged by the hailstorm on May 5, at the earliest.

In a statement to the press, Thoiba said that the fierce hailstorm on May 5 ravaged the state, damaging many houses and crops, and also leaving the people and the farmers in particular in difficult condition.

The farmers in the state are in dire need of financial assistance from the government and this has to be done at a brisk pace.

The Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh had earlier announced compensation for all those affected,

In addition, the concerned departments have also carried out surveys to assess the damages, noted COCOMI Farmers' Wing while requesting adequate compensation and alleviating the suffering of the farmers, whose efforts and labour have all gone to waste in the devastating hailstorm.
