Imphal: Thousands of protestors from across Manipur marched through the main roads of the twin capital cities of Imphal East and Imphal West districts on Friday to call for a “Save Manipur Campaign.”

Organized by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), the protest march started at Thangmeiband United Club’s ground, near the Manipur Legislative Assembly in Imphal West District and culminated at the Khuman Lampak sports complex in Imphal East District after passing through many main roads in the city.

The banners and placards held by the marchers read, “Save Manipur Campaign (Manipur Kanba Khongchat).”

The protesters representing various communities including the Nagas, Meiteis, Manipuri Muslims, and others shouted, “We want peace,” and “Give peace a chance in the prevailing crisis in Manipur.”

COCOMI convenor Th Somorendro denouncing the demand of the Kukiland told the newsmen that the protest march aimed to highlight doubled standard and proxy war adopted by the errant political leaders in the prevailing Manipur crisis.

Stating that the Indian Government’s failure to bring any resolution to the protracted conflict is unfortunate and troubling, he also demanded to stop the divide-and-rule standards played by the Indian government in this sensitive border state.

In response to the appeal made by the COCOMI, various voluntary organizations including Film Forum, Manipur, and several Meira Paibi groups took part in the protest march.

The protest march ended with a meeting that endorsed an agenda including the deportation of illegal immigrants, implementation of NRC, and withdrawal of the Suspension of Operation agreement with Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists, etc.

To this effect, a presentation has been sent to the Prime Minister, the COCOMI said.
