Centre sanctions Rs. 405 crore for 56 road projects in Manipur
Imphal: In a major development in Manipur’s infrastructure, the government of India has approved the implementation of phase three of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-III) in the hill districts.
The Manipur government on Monday officially announced the approval of the new scheme and to start its implementation in the hill districts not affected by the ongoing protracted violence.
Manipur Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Yumnam Khemchand said that the Ministry of Rural Development sanctioned Rs. 404.719 crore on March 7, 2024, for the construction of 56 roads in Manipur under PMGSY-3.
These roads should have several facilities such as bus stands, administrative centres, and access to banks and fuel stations, the minister told the newsmen at his office in Imphal on Monday.
In reply to a question posed by newsmen, the minister said that these roads would be constructed based on a Water Bound Macadam (WBM) layer that would have cement content before the roads are topped with a bitumen layer of thickness of one inch.
