Imphal: The central and state forces on Wednesday made simultaneous raids at the fringe and vulnerable areas of Churachandpur and Thoubal districts in the southern parts of this sensitive border state resulting in the recovery of a slew of weapons.

Acting on specific intelligence of the presence of arms and ammunition in an abandoned camp frequented by the armed miscreants in Churachandpur district, Manipur, the personnel of the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police Commandos launched a joint operation from 4 am to 5 am on Wednesday. 

During the search operations two improvised mortar (pumpi), one double barrel gun, six hand grenades, ammunition, and other war-like stores were recovered.

At the same time, the security forces also launched operations in Thoubal district leading to the seizure of one country-made Pumpi, six HE-36 hand grenades, two detonators, and two tear smoke cells.

However, an arrest has been reported in simultaneous raids cum operations.

The recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police for further action, the report added.
