Brown Sugar smuggled from Myanmar worth Rs. 5 crore seized in Manipur
Imphal: The Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) party of Assam Rifles intercepted two vehicles and recovered 2.6 kg of Brown Sugar worth approximately Rs. 5 crore in the international market.
The illegal items were smuggled into the porous border of Manipur from Myanmar, a defense wing statement said on Friday.
Acting on specific intelligence of the smuggling of contraband items and arms in the Y Junction near Rana Top village in Chandel District of Manipur, the Assam Rifles, established a mobile vehicle check post at around 4 pm on Thursday.
The vigilant troops intercepted two vehicles and recovered 2.6 kilograms of Brown Sugar worth approximately Rs. 5 crore in the international markets, one 9 mm Pistol, two Single barrel 12 bore guns, ammunition, and war-like stores.
The troopers also apprehended five persons travelling in the vehicles.
The apprehended persons and confiscated items were handed over to the concerned police station for further action, the statement added.
