Assam youths arrested in Meghalaya with heroin
Guwahati: The Meghalaya Police on Wednesday arrested two persons from Assam for the alleged possession of narcotic drugs.
Based on intelligence input, the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) of East Khasi Hills district along with the Mawlai Police intercepted a Tata Sumo vehicle near the Banalari showroom in Mawlai while it was on its way from Guwahati to Shillong.
During frisking of the two individuals from Assam, the joint team recovered 57.51 grams of heroin, packed in five plastic soap cases, from their possession.

The team soon arrested the duo and seized the narcotic substance.
The accused have been identified as Abdul Mukit (43), a resident of Karimganj district in Assam, and Sarupananda Mahanta (38), hailing from Mohanpur in Cachar district of Assam.
The joint team also seized four mobile phones, Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC), PAN card, two ATM cards and a driving licence.
A case has been registered at the Mawlai Police Station in this regard and investigation into the matter is ongoing.
