Guwahati: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Thursday (March 21) organised a consumer outreach programme in Assam’s Majuli district.

The programme, aimed at the telecom and broadcasting service consumers of the district, was designed to enlighten the customers about various initiatives undertaken by TRAI to safeguard their interests and the regulatory provisions available for consumer protection.

The event saw participation from diverse sections of the local community, with a special focus on college students.

Notable attendees included officers from the Assam Department of Telecommunications, representatives from the state government, various telecom service providers, and consumer advocacy groups.

Joint Advisor at TRAI, Kolkata, Amit Ghosal emphasised that the programme was part of TRAI’s ongoing efforts to enhance awareness among the telecom consumers regarding regulatory provisions aimed at safeguarding their interests.

Ghosal also highlighted the recent technical advancements in the communication sector and stressed the importance of public engagement in these developments.

Principal of Majuli College, Debajit Saikia graced the occasion as the chief guest. He addressed the issues faced by the students and local residents in accessing telecom networks.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), cybercrime, Bitul Chetia delivered a presentation on cybercrime and related frauds, while Senior Research Officer of TRAI, Debjjit Saha shed light on consumer protection regulations under it and elucidated the complaint redressed mechanism available to the customers.

The programme also included interactive sessions with the consumers, allowing them to voice their concerns and share their experiences.
