Mohghuli Chapori (Dhakuakhana): The three-day-long Photo Bihu celebration concluded on Sunday evening with a consensus that this celebration is the actual Bihu culture rooted in the folk form of the state.

The last day of the three-day annual cultural extravaganza got underway on Sunday with the taking out of a colourful procession from the Phato Bihu main venue of Mohghuli Chapori in Dhakuakhana.

The cultural procession was inaugurated by cine actor and Bihu dancer Preety Kangkana. 64 troupes representing various ethnic groups showcasing their cultures took part in the procession.

In the afternoon the open session of Phato Bihu was held which was chaired by Basanta Saikia, the president of the Phato Bihu committee.

The session was inaugurated by Dr. Nirode Baruah, Vice Chancellor of Majuli Cultural University.

In his inaugural speech, Vice Chancellor Dr. Baruah said that Phato Bihu was a model of Bihu in its original and raw form and it should be the yardstick to organize Bihu functions in the state.

The open session was attended by Somnath Borah Ozha, a renowned dhol exponent as the appointed speaker.

Dhakuakhana ADC Kartik Kalita, local MLA Naba Kumar Doley, ex-MP and union minister Ranee Narah also attended the session as invited guests.

In the night, the Gos Bihu--Bihu under the tree was inaugurated by Diganta Saikia.

Earlier, the three-day-long Phato Bihu celebrations began on May 10 in Mohghuli Chapori here with the hoisting of the flag by Basanta Saikia, President of the Phato Bihu committee. This was followed by a tribute-paying ceremony conducted by Mukul Gogoi, President of the organizing committee. The stage for Phato Bihu, Toka Bihu, Chemoniya Bihu and Gamocha competitions was also inaugurated on the first day of the celebrations.

On the penultimate day of the Phato Bihu celebrations orchids and saplings were planted on the main venue premises.

‘Bihuwan’, the souvenir of Phato Bihu was also released on the day by Dr. Pronoy Phukan, novelist.
