Assam: Slow pace mars Jal Jeevan Mission projects across Lakhimpur

North Lakhimpur: Progress of works on drinking water facilities under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) have been considerably affected at various sites across the Lakhimpur district.

The JJM work worth Rs. 1.10 crore in Nagaon Pather village under Kadam Gaon Panchayat under Bogeenadi Rural Development Bank in Lakhimpur district is reported to be still in incomplete stage.

Work began on this JJM facility under North Lakhimpur PHE  two years ago and is still not finished due to the slow pace.

In nearby No. 1 Kadamiyal Bangali JJM work is also found to be incomplete in works which began three years ago.

The work is also marred by poor quality. Upon public complaint, the concerned JJM officials inspected the work site on May 17 and asked the concerned contractor to reconstruct it.

In Gossanibari village under Nowboicha Rural Development Block the Rs 90 lakh work JJM work became dysfunctional three months after its operational start.

Villagers received tap drinking water only for two months since January this year and currently, the facility is not working.

JJM work in several tea plantation areas of the district is also found to be below standards.

JJM works and services are found insufficient in Line 2 and Khediya Line of Harmutty Tea Estate, in New and Old Line and Rajgarh Line of Chinataliyah Tea Estate, in No. 14 Line of Koilamari Tea Estate, in Amguri Line of Zoihing Tea Estate, in Tunijan of Doolahat Tea Estate, in Sila Line of Silanibari Tea Estate and No. 7 Line of Dejoo Tea Estate.
