Assam pilgrims hospitalised in Gujarat return home safely

Guwahati: Pilgrims from Assam, who had to be hospitalised in Gujarat due to food poisoning, have returned to their home state from Dwarka.

The group had gone on a pilgrimage to the ancient city of Dwarka which is believed to have been the capital of Lord Krishna’s kingdom.

Ashok Roy, a member of the affected group, shared an update on their condition and expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Assam government and the Bajali administration in monitoring their situation.

Roy commended the local administration and police in Jamnagar for their prompt response and support during the crisis, noting that they provided essential medical aid and ensured the safety of the pilgrims.

“Doctors told us that the infection has affected the kidneys of some patients. People of all age groups were affected by the food poisoning and over 40 of them had to be admitted to the hospital,” he added.

However, one of the pilgrims – Udbav Das from Chaibari in Bajali district’s Manikpur – succumbed to his illness.

The journey turned into a nightmare on September 28 when they began experiencing severe symptoms, including diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain, leading to hospitalisation in Jamnagar.
