Assam: Lightning strike kills mother and daughter in Barpeta

Guwahati: As heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are being reported from across Assam, a mother-daughter duo were reported to have been killed by a lightning strike in Barpeta.

The deceased were identified as Momiron Nessa (60) and her daughter Joshna Khatun (20).

They were reportedly sitting outside their home in Saorachara village of Barpeta when the lightning struck.

An 11-year-old boy, Iqbal Hussain, was also injured in the incident and is currently receiving treatment at Barpeta Civil Hospital.

Despite being rushed to a nearby medical facility in critical condition, both the mother and daughter succumbed to their injuries.

Locals have been urged to stay carefully during the storms.
