Assam: Jubi, Kaziranga’s K9 Sniffer Dog passes away after years of service
Guwahati: Eight-year-old K9 Jubi, one of the most trusted and skilled members of Aaranyak’s K9 Sniffer Dog Squad, passed away at 7:08 p.m. on Friday after years of exceptional service in combating wildlife crime in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.
Aaranyak said “Jubi’s dedication, intelligence, and courage made her an invaluable asset in our mission to protect wildlife. Her absence has left a void that will be difficult to fill,” an Aaranyak spokesperson said.
Born in 2017, Jubi was stationed at the Bagori Range of Kaziranga for most of her service period. She supported forest and police teams in detecting wildlife contraband and helped track offenders, contributing to the protection efforts in one of India’s key protected areas.
Aaranyak officials expressed grief over her demise and described her as a beloved member of the organization’s conservation family.
The K9 unit, supported by the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF), has been instrumental in aiding Assam’s forest and police departments in tackling wildlife crimes. Over the years, Jubi’s sharp instincts and rigorous training contributed to the detection of poached animal parts, illegal arms, and the apprehension of several offenders.
The Assam Forest Department also mourned her passing, acknowledging her vital role in strengthening anti-poaching surveillance and field intelligence within the national park.
Jubi’s passing marks the end of a remarkable journey defined by loyalty and courage in the service of conservation. Aaranyak and its partners are planning a tribute to honor her legacy and the invaluable service she rendered to protect India’s Wildlife heritage.
