Assam: NeNow Editor and 4 other activists detained over Zubeen Garg posters
Guwahati: Police on Friday detained NeNow Executive Editor Mahesh Deka and five other activists from the Dighalipukhuri area in Guwahati around 5 pm for hanging a banner containing an image of Assam’s beloved singer Zubeen Garg.
Journalist Deka and others had gathered at Dighalipukhuri to oppose the Assam government’s decision to extend the GNB Road flyover to the District Library point.
Authorities said the detentions were made in connection with the activity, while the activists maintained that the demonstration was peaceful.
Talking to us, Deka said, "It was not at all a protest, we wanted to raise a relevant issue. we are all in grief over Zubeen's death. Where was the protest?"
As far as Deka is concerned, it was all for a peaceful activity but still they were detained.
So sad when a man who has done so much for the society is put to task for no fault of his.
And he adds, "Is it our fault? We wanted peace, but this is how we have been treated?"
