Flight carrying Himanta Biswa Sarma, J.P. Nadda and Nayab Singh Saini returns to Kolkata after midair turbulence en route to Guwahati.

Guwahati: A flight carrying Assam caretaker Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini safely returned to Kolkata on Saturday after encountering turbulent weather while en route to Guwahati.

Sources report that the aircraft had already entered Bangladeshi airspace when it was forced to return to Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport after being redirected in midair as a precaution due to bad weather.

Following the party's overwhelming victory over Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, the leaders were returning from Suvendu Adhikari's swearing-in ceremony as the first BJP Chief Minister of West Bengal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a number of prominent BJP leaders, including Nadda, attended the event.

In the meantime, Saini was set to attend the BJP legislature party meeting in Guwahati prior to the formation of a government and had been appointed as the party's central observer for Assam.

Once weather conditions improve, the leaders are expected to resume their journey, with flight operations likely to be reviewed later in the day.
