Assam CM lays foundation stone for projects worth Rs. 448 crore in Udalguri

Udalguri: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone and dedicated several welfare projects including roads, schools, colleges, and infrastructure development worth an aggregate of Rs. 448 crore in Udalguri district on Sunday. 

Sarma in continuance of his participation in various ongoing Vikas Yatras across the State, attended a rally at Bhergaon in Udalguri district wherein thousands of people attended.

The projects for which foundation stones were laid included a stretch of road from Bogamati to Bhergaon via Naobandha for Rs. 132 crore; a road from Bengabari to Naokata via Bhergaon and Tangla for Rs. 116 crore; a government college in Kalaigaon for Rs. 35 crore among others.

Besides these projects, he also assured the gathering of building a stadium in Bhergaon and a railway flyover in Mangaldoi-Bhutiachang road at Tangla town in the coming days.

He also exuded confidence that these projects which were either inaugurated or foundation stones laid today have immense potential to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the residents of Udalguri district.

He also asserted that the Udalguri district has witnessed an unprecedented level of developmental activities.

He also reiterated that the state government is on its way to fulfill many of the election-time promises such as government jobs to one lakh unemployed youths of the state, among others.

He appealed to the people to cooperate with the government in its endeavour to take the state’s potential to a greater height and assured that various people-friendly initiatives specifically focusing on women and girl children would be implemented.

He also distributed ex-gratia compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to the next kin and kin of eight Adivasi families whose members were killed in a police firing in Paneri in 2003. 

He also distributed 12 ambulances to 12 tea gardens in Udalguri district on the occasion.

Mangaldoi Lok Sabha MP, Dilip Saikia addressing the session said, “The BTR region has witnessed permanent peace and unprecedented development after the BTR accord.” 

He further reiterated that Udalguri is one of the 112th aspirational districts of the country which has ushered in horticulture and handloom sectors.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, BTC CEM Pramod Boro asserted that the last decade has witnessed rapid growth and development across the length and breadth of the state and the BTR region has been prioritized which has been possible for the unwavering support of the state government and nearly Rs 1,500 crore have been earmarked in five districts of BTR as a part of Vikash Yatra ushered by the state government and citizens have received social security schemes and government have curbed various social menaces like drug abuse and child marriage. 

The land issue in the BTR region is being addressed through Mission Bwismuthi in line with Mission Basundara in the state.

The event was also attended by Assam BJP Minority Morcha President Santiuse Kujur, Udalguri MLA Govindo Basumatary; Kalaigaon MLA Durga Das Boro; BTC EM Dr. Nilut Swargiary; Diganta Baruah; Daobaisa Boro among others.
