Assam: Amritpal Singh to be flown to Delhi today for swearing-in ceremony
Dibrugarh: Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De and recently elected Member of Parliament from Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat, is set to be flown to Delhi from the Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam for his swearing-in ceremony on July 5.
His lawyer, Rajdev Singh Khalsa, confirmed that Singh will be airlifted to Delhi in a “military aircraft” to partake in the event.
Following the granting of a four-day parole for the purpose of attending the oath-taking ceremony, Amritpal Singh will be accompanied by a police team of 8-9 member team from Punjab under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar (Rural) Tejbir Singh Hundal.
It’s a big development, and tomorrow will be the festive atmosphere in Amritpal’s home. The people of his village are eagerly waiting for his oath-taking ceremony.
The conditions outlined in Singh's parole order are stringent, prohibiting him or his relatives from making any public statements during his visit to New Delhi. Moreover, any form of media coverage, including videography or circulation of statements, is strictly prohibited.
In addition, Singh has been instructed not to engage in any activities that might compromise national security. The deployment of security personnel during his temporary release and presence in Delhi will be overseen by the SSP, Amritsar (Rural).
Amritpal Singh the chief of Waris Punjab De has been imprisoned in Dibrugarh Jail since April 23, 2023, after his arrest under the National Security Act.
