Dibrugarh: The Dibrugarh police have arrested a contractual staff of the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) for allegedly assaulting a mentally challenged woman sexually.

The accused has been identified as Mujibur Rahman, a housekeeping supervisor at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH).

The alleged incident occurred on the night of July 26 within the hospital premises.

Rahman, employed by BDM Enterprise, a company contracted for housekeeping services at AMCH, has been booked under Section 64(2)(k) of the 2023 Indian Code of Justice.

The case has been registered as number 292/24 at Sadar Police Station in Dibrugarh.

The victim, a young woman with a mental challenge, has been receiving care and support from various departments within the medical institution for the past 15 years.

The AMCH administration said that it has taken the case seriously and is providing all possible assistance to the victim, ensuring she receives justice.

The police have initiated an investigation into the case and are interrogating the accused.

"We have arrested the accused and started our interrogation. We are probing the incident, and as per law, we will take action," said a police official.
