Arunachal: HRA seeks clarity amid conflicting claims over Chinese presence in Taksing sector
Guwahati: The Human Rights of Arunachal (HRA), a civil society organisation in Arunachal Pradesh, has sought clarity from the Indian Army and the Nah Welfare Society (NWS) over conflicting claims regarding the alleged presence of Chinese forces in the Taksing sector of Upper Subansiri district.
In a statement issued on Thursday, HRA Chairman Dr. Kipa Kaha and Secretary General Jesy Debia expressed concern over the contradictory assertions, saying they have created confusion among the public on a matter linked to national security. The organisation called for both sides to present verified facts and ensure transparency.
The Indian Army has reportedly denied any fresh incursion or occupation by Chinese troops in the region, maintaining that no territorial violation has taken place in Upper Subansiri.
However, the Nah Welfare Society has alleged that the People’s Liberation Army has undertaken construction activities, including roads, bridges and temporary camps, in areas it considers Indian territory near the Taksing sector. The group has also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Upper Subansiri seeking intervention.
In view of the conflicting positions, HRA has urged the Government of India and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, along with relevant authorities, to conduct an independent verification of facts and make the findings public where appropriate.
The organisation said greater transparency would help curb misinformation and maintain public confidence while safeguarding national security interests. It reiterated that India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity remain paramount, calling for the issue to be addressed through verified information and responsible communication.
