Arunachal: 13-year-old gang-raped, five held

Guwahati: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five men at Daporijo in Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Subansiri district, officials said.

The incident was reported when the victim’s elder sister lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the local police station on July 28. She claimed that her younger sister had been gang-raped and held captive for five days in the Gandhi Market area.

Upper Subansiri district SP Thutan Jamba confirmed the incident, stating that the FIR accused five men of sexually assaulting the 13-year-old and detaining her for several days.

"Upon receiving the FIR, we immediately registered a case under the appropriate sections of the law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and launched a thorough investigation," SP Jamba said.

The police arrested the five accused, identified as Bai Kaji, Tapong Baring, Raju Lomdak, Jepu Leya, and Nanesh Nayam.

After the necessary medical examination and following all legal procudures, the victim was reunited with her parents, the SP said.

He also mentioned that the accused are now in judicial custody following the end of their police remand.

According to the complaint, the young girl had been confined in a house from 22 July and managed to escape on the morning of July 26.
