Imphal: The Indian Army in conjunction with the Manipur Police launched a joint operation with the recovery of a cache of warlike weapons including arms, ammunition, and explosives while a joint team of security forces disposed of firearms seized at the Manipur-Myanmar border, officials said on Tuesday.

Acting on specific intelligence of the presence of arms and ammunition in the fringe areas of Kangpokpi districts, the Indian Army and Manipur Police launched a joint operation. It recovered one 9 mm carbine, one 9 mm pistol, five grenades, ammunition, and war-like stores on Monday.

The recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police, officials said.

Meanwhile, a cache of warlike stores including one .38 pistol with one magazine and two rounds, 10 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), three 36 HE hand grenades, 85 rounds of carbine, and 10 rounds of AK rifle were disposed of near the Key Location Point (KLP) post of Assam Rifles at Moreh, Manipur-Myanmar border on Monday, officials said on Tuesday.

These items were recovered from a sack concealed under a water tank on the roof of an abandoned building in the vicinity of Elora Hotel, Moreh on March 1, 2024.

A joint operation involving Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) of 5 and 25 Assam Rifles, along with police personnel, led to the recovery of these explosive items, the officials added.
