Imphal: Prof D Somayajulu, Director of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur, along with two colleagues, met with Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal this evening to discuss various developmental initiatives undertaken at the institute.

According to a communique issued by the Raj Bhavan, the delegation informed the Governor that NIT Manipur currently has around 1,200 students, with 50% hailing from Manipur. They discussed the challenges posed by the lack of a permanent campus and shared that steps are underway to establish one on 341 acres.

A detailed project report (DPR) has been submitted to the Ministry of Education, and an expert team has been constituted to visit and assess the current infrastructure. Once the project receives approval, construction will commence promptly. The team also requested adequate security coverage for the Institute.

In a separate meeting, Prof. Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director of the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal, along with two officials, invited Governor Uikey to attend a program at the Institute scheduled for tomorrow. The IBSD team highlighted their efforts in nurturing the state's rich biodiversity, particularly medicinal plants.
