Nepal floods: Death toll reaches 788 as at least 2,502 people remain missing
Guwahati: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said Nepal’s flood death toll has climbed to 788, while 2,502 people remain missing. A total of 9,435 people have so far been rescued from the flood-affected areas, the authority said.
The disaster has also claimed 16 lives on the Chinese side of the border, while nearly 550 people are still missing in Tibet, according to Chinese media reports.
Meanwhile, water levels in the Bhotekoshi River rose again on Sunday, days after a devastating flash flood swept through the region. The development prompted Nepalese authorities to advise search-and-rescue teams operating in the affected districts to remain alert.
The Bhotekoshi River, which flows southward from the Himalayan border region, carried huge volumes of water downstream into central Nepal during Wednesday’s flash floods.
In a statement, the NDRRMA warned that the water level in the flood-affected river had risen to some extent and urged all concerned authorities and personnel to take precautionary measures.
