Guwahati: The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), an ethnic minority armed group, has claimed that it has taken control of a regional military command in Lashio, northern Shan state.

The MNDAA claimed that the base was captured after weeks of intense fighting.

The conflict, which escalated in early July, has ravaged Lashio, a strategic trade hub with China.

It has left the city's 150,000 residents affected.

While a military source confirmed that government troops had begun retreating from the base, it remains unclear if any soldiers remain inside. The junta has not yet commented on the situation.
