Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump on his historic victory in the US Presidential Election.

PM Modi said he looked forward to renewing the collaboration to further strengthen the India-US comprehensive global and strategic partnership.

“Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory. As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership,” PM Modi wrote in a post on X.

“Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity,” he added in his post.

Donald Trump is set to become the 47th President of the United States defeating Democrat nominee Kamala Harris in a remarkable political comeback.

Trump, who challenged his previous election loss, faced a turbulent path back to the White House.

His journey included a Capitol insurrection, conviction of felony charges and surviving two assassination attempts.

Trump, having won Wisconsin, surpassed the 270 electoral votes required to secure the presidency.

The former President also claimed victory in the key swing states of Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Trump is the second U.S. President to serve non-consecutive terms.

The first was Grover Cleveland, who held two separate periods in the White House - from 1885 to 1889 and again from 1893 to 1897.

Cleveland served as the 22nd President following his victory in the 1884 election and returned as the 24th President after winning the 1892 election.
