Indian Railways to introduce LHB coaches on Kanchanjunga Express, says NFR
Guwahati: Indian Railways will soon introduce new Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) coaches on the Kanchanjunga Express to improve passenger comfort and the overall travel experience.
These modern LHB rakes will replace the older ICF coaches currently used on the train.
The Kanchanjunga Express runs on two major routes: Sealdah to Sabroom in Tripura, and Sealdah to Silchar in southern Assam.
According to Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the new rake will start operating from November 28.
The train is an important link between the Northeast and eastern India, helping passengers travel easily and supporting social and economic connections across the region.
Sharma said the shift from ICF to LHB coaches is a major upgrade, offering better safety features, including an anti-telescopic design that reduces damage during accidents.
He added that the coaches provide a smoother and more stable journey, support higher speeds, have cleaner interiors, and offer a more comfortable travel experience.
The LHB set will include five AC 3-tier coaches, one AC 2-tier coach, nine sleeper coaches, and four general class coaches, which ensures enough capacity for all types of passengers.
Indian Railways says this move is part of its ongoing effort to modernise trains and improve passenger services.
The NFR operates in the Northeastern states, along with parts of West Bengal and northern Bihar.
