Haryana local body poll results to be announced today
Guwahati: Vote counting for Haryana’s local body elections is set to begin on Tuesday across several key municipal corporations, councils and committees, including Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat. The polling, conducted on Sunday, witnessed an overall voter turnout of 54.5 per cent, as per data released by the State Election Commission.
The elections were held for mayoral and ward councillor positions in the municipal corporations of Ambala, Panchkula, and Sonipat. Polling also took place for the Rewari municipal council and the municipal committees of Sampla, Dharuhera, and Uklana. Additionally, by-elections for one ward each were conducted in Tohana, Jhajjar, Rajound, Taraori, Kanina and Sadhaura.
Among the major cities, Ambala registered a voter turnout of 54.4 per cent, Panchkula 52.7 per cent and Sonipat 47.9 per cent. Higher participation was recorded in districts such as Hisar (75.7 per cent), Rewari (66.1 per cent) and Rohtak (79.2 per cent).
Out of 8.73 lakh eligible voters, nearly 4.75 lakh cast their votes during the elections.
The ruling BJP and the Congress remain the main rivals in the contest. BJP candidates Akshita Saini, Shyamlal Bansal, and Rajiv Jain are in the fray for the mayoral posts in Ambala, Panchkula, and Sonipat respectively. The Congress has fielded Kulwinder Kaur, Sudha Bhardwaj, and Kamal Diwan against them.
