NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), according to reports, will stake claim to form a new central government on Friday (June 07).

The decision was taken after a crucial meeting of the NDA constituents was held on Wednesday (June 05) evening in New Delhi.

Senior BJP leader and union home minister Amit Shah, after the meeting, said: "The NDA is firmly committed to serving the nation and its people with renewed strength and momentum."

Earlier, Narendra Modi submitted his resignation as the Prime Minister of the country to President Droupadi Murmu, who later dissolved the 17th Lok Sabha.

“The President has accepted the resignation and requested Shri Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers to continue till the new government assumes office,” a press communique said.

It may be mentioned here that the NDA got past the majority mark to win 292 seats, but the BJP as a party fell short of the majority on its own.

If the NDA forms the government, Modi will likely be the second leader to retain power for a third term after former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
