Bihar Election Results 2025: Will Nitish return or Tejashwi take charge? Counting underway
Guwahati: Bihar Election Results 2025: The counting of votes for all 243 seats in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Election began this morning, marking the final stage of a closely watched contest.
Voters cast their ballots in two phases on November 6 and 11, producing one of the highest turnouts in Bihar’s electoral history.
The NDA government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, entered the election seeking another term, highlighting two decades of state-level governance along with the Modi government’s 11-year tenure at the Centre.
In contrast, the INDIA bloc, also known as the Mahagathbandhan, campaigned aggressively on issues of anti-incumbency, unemployment and administrative failures, promising a different direction for the state.
Why This Election Holds Weight
Bihar’s political outcome carries major national relevance. Despite housing nearly 10% of India’s population, the state contributes only around 2.8% to the national economy, reflecting a persistent gap in per-capita economic output. This imbalance adds intensity to debates around development, governance, and economic reform during the election.
A historic 67.13% voter turnout has raised political curiosity about whether increased participation signals dissatisfaction, a demand for change, or a consolidation of support for the ruling alliance. Both the NDA and INDIA bloc insist that the surge validates their respective messages to voters. Whether Nitish Kumar secures another term or Tejashwi Yadav stages a comeback will soon become clear.
Exit Poll Scenario
Most exit polls leaned toward an NDA victory, though a few surveys hinted at a tight battle between the two alliances. Historically, exit polls in Bihar have often misread voter sentiment, adding uncertainty to today’s outcome.
Counting Schedule
Officials began counting postal ballots at 8 am, and the process for EVM votes will start at 8:30 am across all counting centers. Final trends are expected to emerge by midday.
